The closest international airport is "Marco Polo" airport in Venice, 20 kilometers (12 miles) east of Padua. Here are different ways to go to Padua from Venice airport.
By bus, tickets can be purchased in the Arrivals Hall but they can also be bought on board the bus. Buses are just outsite the Arrivals Hall. You must get off at the bus station in Padua. For more info, please visit: Busitalia .
An alternative bus service is FlixBus .
You can also take a bus to Mestre and there take a train to Padova. All trains going from Venice Mestre to Milan, Bologna or Rome, plus several local trains, stop in Padua (the ride time is 20/30 minutes); many trains are available.
From Venice Marco Polo airport you can also reach Padua by a shuttle service. That is more expensive, but it will leave you exactly at your hotel. You can choose two different companies (reserve a seat at least 24 hours in advance!):

Both companies offer the same service: someone will wait for you at the airport with a sign. Then you will be taken to Padua on a small van. The ride lasts aproximately 40 minutes.
